Publishing Focus – An interview with Joost Nijsen
As part of the Indie Innovation series on Digital Book World, Matt was lucky enough to speak to Joost Nijsen. As the founder of Amsterdam-based publisher, Podium, Joost has plenty of fascinating insights into indie publishing, and the Dutch book industry as a whole.
He also shares some advice for startup publishers in today’s world;
“Specialize. Don’t publish too many titles. Find a niche. Keep overhead low. Invest in very skillful editors, or hire them freelance. Know how to approach media. Find a partner for selling it all to retail. Make books beautiful. Don’t expect to become rich. But it is still possible to create bestsellers when you’re a small player.”
