Further expanding the horizons
Salesforce, already one of the world’s most successful disruptive organisations, has decided to extend its focus to conquering the world of wearable tech! The leading cloud CRM provider has began to launch starter apps designed to enable users to build enterprise tools on wearable devices connected to the cloud. Benioff’s army is working with manufacturers such as Apple to bring wearable technology to the enterprise market.
The Salesforce Wear pack includes six sample apps that integrate with the Salesforce Cloud for wearable devices such as the Apple Watch, Google Glass, Android wear, Oculus Rift, Samsung Gear 2, the Pebble watch and more!
So, what will you actually be able to do using these devices?
The Apple Watch is a ‘smart Watch’, initially designed for the consumer market. One primary focus of the Apple watch was arguably for health – highlighting it’s fitness tracking system and health-orientated capabilities. However, there’s actually a lot more this device can do. Developers can now build apps and connect the device to the Salesforce1 platform. The Salesforce Wear Developer Pack for Apple Watch consists of a sample app which uses the WatchKit platform and the Salesforce Mobile SDK for iOS to build connected apps. WatchKit apps are an extension to the app running on your phone.
Although officially discontinued, keep an eye out for further developments in Google Glass (or something similar). The company are determined to bring revolutionary new wearable technology to the market. The existing Google Glass prototype is an Android head piece that projects a transparent screen, with users able to interact with the device through voice command. This kind of device offers incredible opportunities to consumers, but also to professionals.
Salesforce want to connect Google Glass to their own tools in a remarkable new way – to bring real-time business critical information to those on the front line; salespeople, service employees, field workers, etc. Stats and information, background history, context, and more. Salesforce wants to deliver this data to the professionals that need it.
The Oculus Rift is a favourite here at Ribbonfish, as we currently have one to play with in the office! It is a virtual reality headset that allows users to step into a whole new world. The full product hasn’t been launched as yet, but the developer pack is available to buy. It can be used for a variety of different things; as well as revolutionising the gaming world, it can have very real uses in enterprise – in similar ways to Google Glass.
Salesforce are looking to integrate their products with a number of different wearable technologies, including Nymi, Pebble, and Meta Glasses. According to most experts, wearable technology will take off in the consumer and corporate worlds. Ribbonfish are ready to help businesses maximise the potential of wearables integrated with Salesforce products – bringing the most essential information to the professionals that need it; anywhere, anytime.
